- The most common type of ionising radiation used in medicine all over the world are X-rays since its discovery.
- There are obvious benefits to health from medical uses of X-rays in diagnostic, however, there are well established health risks from radiation if improperly applied and even possible Harmful effects from small radiation doses.
- As we all are aware of the fact that radiation is harmful to the body, when it is absorbed beyond limit.
To protect the human beings from unnecessary excess radiation, an act was introduced by Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Mumbai in 1962 i.e. “ Radiation Protection Act” (RPA). - Also, the safety codes and Radiation protection rules were introduced by AERB in the year 2001 and 2004 respectively.
